In November 2012, my husband Jason and I decided to make our parents' Christmas presents. While we originally thought of doing something the kids could help us with, I went on a tangent and decided candles would be perfect. I went to the local craft store and bought a hard block of wax, some scent tiles and color tiles, some thick wine glasses from Goodwill, and started my journey. It was fun to make these four candles, (Vanilla and Cinnamon), but I wasn't impressed by them. If you smelled them, they smelled nice. But once you lit them, you couldn't smell them unless you singed your nose hairs sniffing over the flame. I was heartbroken. This led me to Google, and I searched several waxes, scents, colors, etc, until I found my main supply site. I begged my husband to let me spend over $100 on another silly hobby I wanted to take up, and after some persuasion I got to order my items. It's only been 6 months, but this is the favorite of all of my hobbies.
I use a wonderful paraffin blended wax, which is very soft. When making my tarts, I blend it with straight paraffin, to make them snap apart easier. The scent throw is fabulous, and when we light a candle or warm a tart cube in our 1400 sq. ft. apartment, you can smell it throughout the whole home. It's wonderful! And better than any store bought cheap candle I have bought anywhere else.
I use highly rated, concentrated candle fragrance oils, and liquid candle dye. I enjoy blending the colors to get the perfect mix. Since I do make all of my candles in small batches, they will have the same scent, but never the perfectly identical color. Also, since I keep a small stock on hand, they are sure to be fresh and have a long shelf life since they are made as needed. Since I keep all the stock in my home and not at a retail location, I do not have tons of stock on hand at any given time. I do not want to be wasteful, or have the candles lose their scent or color just sitting in my home.
